The Time Jesus Was My Uber Driver

Originally written September 3, 2020

Today started off like the children’s book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. My car was towed (I SWEAR I THOUGHT I WAS IN A SAFE PARKING SPOT🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️), my sister isn’t here right now so she couldn’t help chauffeur me around to go get it, then my debit card I needed to use to withdraw the cash to PAY for the tow was expired, so I had to wait ~20min, replace my card, bankrupt myself (kidding?), then resume my Uber to pick up my car from where it was towed! The icing on top: the whole reason I needed my car was to pick up my mom and sister to see them, which I had been looking forward to for WEEKS!🤯🤬 BUT, as I was ready to ~officially lose my mind~ and the tears of frustration were beginning to fall, my Uber driver, Brian Starr, swooped in to save the day.

I genuinely believe in seeing God in all things. By getting angry at my situation this morning, I almost overlooked the divine presence in front of me. The absolute KINDEST soul picked me up this morning, and a complete stranger coached me through tears, reminding me of the most important lessons:

  1. Whatever life throws at you- DONT GET MAD. If you’re mad, you miss the chance to respond divinely and you react humanly.

  2. Don’t forget to thank God for your blessings. See the goodness in the roadblocks life sends you- they are stepping stones to grace.

  3. EMBRACE HUMANITY. Brian was beyond kind and then Nikki, who drove me to the tow yard where my car was, was so welcoming and eager to talk. I experienced rich encounters with the people who were HELPING ME OUT. Because I was able to (with help, and grace, of course) return to a calm state of gratitude, I enjoyed the presences of each person who helped me get back on track today.

  4. Finally, LET SH*T GO. Sh*t happens. It’s life. See God in all things and learn from each moment.
